Trioceros hoehnelii

From wild caught to captive bred

At The Chameleon Collective, we understand the importance of maintaining captive-bred populations of reptiles to help reduce the number of animals taken from the wild and exported to other countries. We’re proud to launch a captive breeding program for Trioceros hoehnelii—a small, live-bearing chameleon native to Uganda and Kenya.

We’re excited to share that our wild-caught pair of Trioceros hoehnelii (Kenyan locale) gave birth to eight healthy babies on April 26, 2025. These captive-born offspring mark the first step in a long and meaningful endeavor to help diversify the gene pool of the currently limited captive population in the United States. Below are photos of each individual hatchling, along with the parents.

All of the babies from this first clutch have now found new homes. However, this is just the beginning of the project.
